When I was a kid, I never dreamed about being a photographer. I thought I would be a veterinarian. But then I realized I wasn’t all that interested in learning how many stomachs cows have. (They have four. That’s three too many for me.) Then I thought I would be a writer. Someone who crafted beautiful, elaborate stories. I wanted to create exotic, twinkly little worlds that people would fall in love with, moustachioed characters with odd little dogs, or kids with wildly independent spirits and pigtails that glowed in the sunshine.
But then I wandered into photography, and found myself with a camera that rarely ever left my hands. And I realized that I wasn’t meant to create those fabulous little worlds with amazing characters. I was simply meant to see them.
I love making photographs. Entering people’s worlds for a day or a week, or a few months, and laughing with them and their families. I love surprises, unexpected twists, and the brilliant little unchoreographed moments of life…. and I love being the person who gets to document them all for others to enjoy.
